The Whittier Alliance has created task forces to address the following neighborhood issues:
Design Guidelines Task Force
To further promote and enhance the pedestrian experience and the pedestrian overlay document, a design guidelines task force and the Whittier Alliance have contracted Lunning Wende & Assoc. to assist in developing Whittier Design Guidelines (summer -2008). The Design Guidelines will recommend and inform new development proposals and the redevelopment of existing properties. The goal is to enhance the pedestrian experience and street aesthetics of the commercial corridors in Whittier. The guidelines will support the Pedestrian Overlay. Franklin-Nicollet Pedestrian Overlay Task Force
The Franklin-Nicolet Pedestrian Overlay document was adopted by the City Council in August of 2007. The overlay sets zoning policy for land uses that are considered "pedestrian-friendly" along Nicollet and Franklin Avenues.HCMC/GFI Task Force

Nicollet Ave Light Rail Transit Task Force
The Nicollet Ave Light Rail Transit Task Force met in the winter and spring of 2008 to discuss proposed city light rail lines and the impact on the Whittier neighborhood. The Task Force created two documents, both of which were adopted by the Whittier Alliance Board.Adopted documents:
